Go Post-Hardcore With Escape The Fate
Las Vegas, Nevada is the place of origin of metalcore, post hardcore band Escape the Fate. To date, this energetic group has music merch consisting of three EPs, six singles, two albums and eight videos under their belt.
Band Story
The original band members, Omar Espinosa, Ronnie Radke, Robert Ortiz, Bryan Money and Max Green came together six years ago in Pahrump, Nevada. It was only two years after their initial meeting though that they were able to churn up their first EP “There’s No Sympathy for the Dead.” It was a little later after this that they were able to release their first Escape the Fate album, “Dying is Your Latest Fashion” containing two songs from their first EP. Somewhere during the production of their album release, keyboardist Carson Allen left the group to join On the Last Day.
The year that followed saw the band participating in the tour Black on Black. It was here that the band saw another departure when rhythm guitarist Omar Espinosa left for personal reasons. After this blow, Ronnie Radke who took on vocals followed but only after he was pushed out by other band members. Radke had a run in with the law and was sentenced to serve a prison term. It was Craig Mabbitt from Bless the Fall who temporarily took on the responsibilities of the beleaguered Radke. Eventually though, Mabbitt became a permanent member and is still presently on lead vocals. Currently, Max Green handles lead guitar, Bryan Money handles bass guitar and Robert Ortiz handles the drums.
Studio Albums Released
It was on September 26, 2006 that the Escape the Fate album “Dying is Your Latest Fashion” came out. Ronnie Radke is given credit for being the writer and composer behind all the tracks. Of the eleven songs, two were lifted from their EP “There’s No Sympathy for the Dead” while nine are originals. “Look Your Best” is a Japanese bonus track that was also released.
Their second studio album was released roughly two years after the first. Called “This War Is Ours”, Craig Mabbitt took the spotlight and seamlessly mixed in his vocals with the band's hardcore sounds. The album's length wasn't as long as the first (38:24), but the Deluxe Special Edition followed with two new tracks that were never introduced before along with one previously unreleased remix and an acoustic version of the song “Harder Than You Know.” The deluxe album also came with a DVD that features a few music videos along with a world tour documentary and some behind the scenes. This album was released very recently on April 27th 2010.
Plans are underway for a third Escape the Fate album. They revealed this during their participation in the 2009 Warped Tour. Recording sessions already started close to the end of 2009. The album was slated for a spring 2010 release. The actual release has been moved to summer of 2010. Fans hope to catch the album then at every local band store. Mick Mars from Motley Crue takes credit for helping write a couple of the finished demo songs. You can catch the band and their music in social networking sites Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.
How Steve Jobs Changed Music, For Good and Ill (New Yorker)
My colleague Kelefa Sanneh already summarized Jobs as the handmaiden of the
single. Here are two other ways in which Job changed music.
1. **A Jobs thing that didn't work out so well:**
I love MP3 culture--the social and intellectual value of trading songs, and
the democratic nature of a small file that can be accessed easily, especially
in places that had less access to music when it was stored on a physical,
breakable medium. (Look through recent record contracts and you will still
find ghost clauses about the costs associated with breakages incurred by the
shipment of 78-r.p.m. discs.) And despite their lower fidelity, MP3s often
sound weirdly great coming out a computer connected to a Jawbone Jambox or
even a decent set of cheap speakers. What sounds bad? iPod earbuds. They are
vastly uncomfortable, render unpleasant versions of sounds that were once
either euphonious or faithful to the original recording, and cause people to
turn up the music way too loud to compensate for the zero fidelity. In turn,
this caused many companies to make fancier, better earbuds as alternatives.
Mostly this created a market for expensive and uncomfortable things.
