How do I hook up a car headunit and speakers to an ac outlet.?
I know this can be done because you see it in stores no one that I have asked has been able to help though. I am trying to build a rolling speaker system for my garage and have a ton of car audio equipment laying around. Does anyone know what type of converter to use?
you will need a 12 volt dc power supply capable of putting out enough power (amps) to power the headunit and any other parts (like amplifiers) you are looking to hookup
common power supplies use half wave rectifies to go from AC to DC. these can be very noisy on audio equipment. so a good powersupply is key.

the one the other poster listed is for going from 12V DC up to 120V AC, that's called an inverter. you need to go the other direction.
