How To Prevent Accidents If Using An Oil Filled Radiator
If you are thinking of using an oil filled radiator to keep your home warm, then there are certain things you should know about how to be safe with one. As long as they are used carefully, they are a great way to keep your home warm in the winter. But in order for them to stay safe, there are a number of things you should do. This will prevent you from encountering any hazardous situations with your oil filled radiator.
Try to buy a model that comes with an extra long power lead. This can then be plugged into the electricity socket and moved to certain locations in the room you want. However, you should make sure that you only run the power lead of your heater along the walls and not across the floor. Do not make the mistake of running the cable across the floor and having the heater in the centre of the room. This can be quite dangerous as it could cause someone to trip over the cable.
You should also make sure that you never use an extension lead to connect your radiator to the electricity supply. If you leave a radiator connected to an extension lead it could cause a fire. Most extension leads have a maximum amount of power that can be directed through them and this can be a lot lower than what an oil filled radiator would use. An extension lead could overheat and the wires inside could spark if it is used for an appliance that is too strong for it.
Some models come with automatic shut off switches as well as other safety features. Choosing a model with these safety features is a good idea if possible. But you can avoid worrying about potential problems by making sure that you follow all the safety tips in this article.
Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with cheap heating oil to ensure they never run out.
